Struggling to achieve the weight loss goals you’ve set for yourself? Check out seven tips that will keep you on track to happily achieving those goals without self-sabotaging your hard work.
Step on the Scale: For the longest time I was a scale hater. In fact, I didn’t even own one for the majority of my adult life. It wasn’t until I committed to stepping on the scale weekly with weight watchers. I wasn’t hitting my weight loss goals because I needed to make that scale my friend even if I didn’t like what it told me. The scale wasn’t lying. The scale was reminding me where I was, and how far I had to get where I wanted to go. One of the hardest suggestions to take into consideration is to actually get on the scale. I think of the scale like that really honest friend we all have. The one who speaks her mind, even when she tells us what we don’t want to hear. Let’s be honest, sometimes we don’t want to own our choices to eat poorly, to enjoy the drinks, to avoid the workouts, but there is nothing else quite like the scale to remind us that YES, we are worthy, but worthiness takes work. The scale is a great way to remind us what we are working towards.
Drink water: Not soda, not juice, not sweet tea. Drink water. The go to rule is half your weight in ounces. So if you weigh 120 pounds, a minimum of 60 ounces a day is needed to dtay hydrated. I strive to drink about 100 ounces a day. And I actually can get more in when I sip it through a straw. There are lots of great water, hacks. Sparking water like La Croix or a water enhancer like Stur are great additions to add a punch of flavor and sweetness. Just be sure to stay away from drinks that contain added sugar and sucralose! This will help you keep on track for achieving those weight loss goals!
Bring the Veggie Tray: Heading to a party or an event? Bring a tray of vegetables along with you! Any time you head out to an event and don’t have control over the dishes being served, bring your own dish. Take that control! Other guest love it, and the colors from the veggies are so appealing! It’s the perfect party, pop! And if you don’t want to pbring the vegetables, eat a full before you go. Fill up on a plate of protein and vegetables that will keep you full throughout the event!
Make Fitness Part of Your To-Do List: I tell my clients all the time to schedule a workout like you would a doctor’s appointment. Make fitness part of the weight loss goals you’ve set for yourself. Schedule for first thing in the morning, even if it means you have to set your alarm an hour earlier. Or, get your workout in during the kid’s naptime! Or, get your workout in after the kids get to bed! Whatever works for your schedule, put it in your planner and make a committment to get at least 30 minutes of fitness into your day!
Eat Breakfast: I am definitely guilty of getting too busy throughout the morning that morning eating is often an after thought. I will often scarf down a protein bar or a quick handful of cereal while rushing out the door. If that sounds familiar, let’s get intentional with our morning eating habits. Whether you grab a quick superfoods shake or a quick egg cup, make sure that you load up with veggies and protein before you start the day! It will keep you fueled throughout the morning, and set you up to make smart choices throughout the day!
Distract Yourself: Do you ever find yourself eating out of boredom? Or has your hand ever made it to the cookie jar before you knew how it got there? Try distracting yourself with the mindless snacking by putting a glass of water in your hands. Reach for water before you reach for the treat, always! The glass in your hand will keep you distracted so they don’t mindlessly work your way to the snack cabinet! And drink up, buttercup! Usually you aren’t hungry. You’re more likely, bored! Water! Distraction! Win!
Get Accountability: When you are starting a new program or working towards a weightloss goal, let others know. Share your goals with your spouse, your friend, or your coach, and ask them for their support. What I’ve found is that when people know that you are making your health a priority, they are less likely to intimidatingly offer you that piece of cake or instead of meeting for drinks you take an evening walk! Letting others know about your goals helps you stay out of situations where you fear being tempted to forget why you started!
