One of the most common questions that I get is how to stay on track when you have a schedule packed with travel!
I get it! I have had a jam packed schedule of time away from home, and it’s so easy to get off track and lose focus of out healthy eating goals. I am pretty forthcoming in telling people that I am a firm believer in the 80-20 rule. And there’s no reason that same rule can’t apply with travel!
As I head out to San Diego for a leadership retreat, I decided to take a little time today to blog some of my biggest tips for how I stay on track!
Check it out!
1. Don’t Skip Meals:
I used to believe that if I skipped meals, I gave myself the right to pig out at dinner. Instead- I travel with my single serving of shakeology to make sure that I am getting essential nutrients, and it helps me cut those cravings too! I find it critical to get my vitamins and probiotics in to boost my immune system! Airplanes aren’t the most germ free zones!
Each morning start the day with a healthy breakfast. balance your healthy carbs with a lean protein!
If I don’t have a single serving of shakeology, I simply portion it out and place it in Zip-loc bags!
2. Pack your own snacks so you don’t get stuck snacking on junk food! Get some pre-packaged nuts or dried fruit! I also love my son’s fruit pouches and single serve Justin’s Peanut Butter. Green apples travel well, but I do prefer some Honey Crisp at this time of year! Here are some of my top snack ideas!
3. DRINK!
Ok! So if you are traveling and you want to enjoy a cocktail, go for it. Try ordering vodka tonic or a glass of red wine! But drink water too, and lots of it! Carry a water bottle with you and challenge yourself throughout the day to keep drinking! Social setting? Order a mocktail! Try this: Sparking water with a splash of cranberry and a squeeze of lime.

4. Dessert or no Dessert?
Um… hey it’s me you’re talking to.
Yes. BUT…
Try sharing your dessert or selecting a lighter option like sorbet! And if I know dessert is coming, I eat a lighter dinner. I skip the bread! Know what you want and enjoy it!
5. Make time to exercise!
Stick to your routine! Get moving! I find it easy to hit the gym and push play on my phone. I use Beachbody on Demand by pushing play on some of my favorite workouts! I can stream them live wherever I have wifi! You can go for a bike ride or a long walk on the beach! No matter what, sweat can release toxins, so get out there and move!
No matter what, don’t stress about it too much! It will be easy to get back on track when you get home! These tips will make it easy to stay on track without feeling guilty or deprived!
